Actually, it's the first tuesday in November and that started in 1845. They chose tuesday in Nov because it was convenient for the Congressmen who wanted to be in their home states to vote. Something about returning to the Capitol in December.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">No. It is the first Tuesday after the first Monday of the month. Sometimes it will be the first Tuesday of the month, like this year. Other times it will be the second Tuesday of the month. It all just depends on how the calendar falls in a particular year.
